How To Get Your Hands On A Bargain Vehicle At Federal Auto Auctions

Federal auto auctions are a great source of bargain vehicles, both for trade buyers and for ordinary folk looking to pick up a private vehicle. Not only that, but they usually afford the opportunity to pick up some very unusual models, many of them unique. Thats because a large proportion of the vehicles seized by the federal government have either been used in crime, or were adapted with the sole intent of being used in a crime. Therefore, the engine will have been performance enhanced, and in some cases the vehicle will have hidden compartments that were designed for the movement of drugs. If you would like a vehicle with some unique or rare features, a federal auto auction may be just the place to look.

There will also have been vehicles on show that have been seized for far more mundane reasons. Basically because the owner has been unable to meet their tax bill payments. And during the recent financial crisis , this is certainly a lot more common. Look at it this way, it's not always a crime that caused the vehicles to be seized. A business will have earned reasonable money during the boom times which happened earlier in the decade, and subsequently a tax bill will have been accrued. Now, that the business is suffering from a dramatic drop in income, the money to pay the bill has evaporated into everyday running costs, wages, supplies etc. Next thing car seized...

The seized car sales auctions had, until recent times, been solely for dealers in the motor trade. Obviously they were not pleased to have seen their private gravy train exposed to the public. It was the business opportunity publications that first latched on to the fact that these auctions were a viable business opportunity. It is real easy for a magazine writer to find a single isolated incident where a vehicle has fetched an abnormally low price, and then to tell the world that this is normal everyday practise.

Of course, although it is perfectly feasible, it is also exceedingly rare. You cannot possibly build a sustainable business by looking for freak one-off events which may be happened due to extreme weather conditions, or an event being advertised on the wrong date – it has happened before. In despite of this, these seized car sales remain a good source of cheaper vehicles, provided you are prepared to put in the hours and do enough research to be sure of prevailing values.

Federal auto auctions have cars, vans and trucks which have been seized, and which the government wants to get rid of in a timely fashion. That's why no maintenance is ever done on these vehicles, and they are sold as seen. So if you don't have the insiders knowledge of working vehicles asthetics you may not be able to make an accurate assessment of the condition and the true market value of the vehicle, so be sure to take along someone who does. Being well reserached, and keeping a cool head when bidding, is the way to succeed at federal auto auctions.
